Hull City Boss Gives Update on Semi Ajayi’s Injury Return
Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic has provided an update on the recovery timeline of Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi, revealing that the centre-back could return to action before the end of March.
Ajayi has been sidelined since the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where he played a key role in Nigeria’s third-place finish. The defender sustained a hamstring injury during the playoff victory against Egypt, forcing him to miss club action since then.
Speaking on the situation, Jakirovic explained the uncertainty surrounding Ajayi’s recovery while justifying the club’s squad decisions.
“We have taken Paddy because of Ajayi’s situation – we don’t know, maybe it will be the end of March [before] he will be with,” Jakirovic said, as quoted by The Yorkshire Post.
Ajayi joined Hull City as a free agent and quickly established himself as a reliable figure in the backline, making his absence a noticeable setback for the Tigers as they navigate a demanding part of the season.
Opinion: Hull City Can’t Wait for Ajayi’s Return
Semi Ajayi’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Hull City. His calm presence, aerial strength, and leadership at the back have been sorely missed, especially for a team looking to maintain defensive stability in a competitive league.
The club’s cautious approach is understandable — rushing a hamstring injury often leads to setbacks — but Jakirovic will be hoping Ajayi returns closer to early March than late. His comeback could feel like a new signing, offering Hull City a timely boost for the final stretch of the campaign.
For Ajayi himself, patience will be key. A fully fit return not only strengthens Hull City’s defence but also keeps him in good shape ahead of future Super Eagles duties. Fans will be watching closely, hopeful that March brings good news for both club and country.
