Joe Aribo Set for Leicester City Loan Move as Saints Agree Deal

Joe Aribo Set for Leicester City Loan Move as Saints Agree Deal

Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo is reportedly on the verge of completing a loan move to Leicester City for the remainder of the season, according to TalkTalk Nigeria.

Both Southampton and Leicester City have reached an agreement on the deal, which is expected to be finalised before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Aribo, who has six months remaining on his contract with Southampton, has struggled for game time this season. The Nigerian international has made just seven appearances, all from the bench, for the Saints, limiting his influence and match rhythm.

The 29-year-old had previously been linked with a move to Turkey, but he has chosen to remain in England, with Leicester City now offering him a chance to revive his season.

Aribo joined Southampton from Scottish giants Rangers in a high-profile move in 2022 and has gone on to make 111 appearances across all competitions for the club.

Opinion: A Fresh Start That Makes Sense

For Joe Aribo, this potential move feels both timely and necessary.

At this stage of his career, sitting on the bench does little for a player of his quality—especially one still very much in contention for national team opportunities. Leicester City offer something Southampton currently cannot: the promise of regular football and a defined role.

Remaining in England also looks like a smart decision. Aribo knows the league, the pace, and the physical demands, which means adaptation time will be minimal. In contrast, a move abroad might have added unnecessary uncertainty at a crucial point in the season.

From Leicester’s perspective, Aribo brings experience, versatility, and composure, qualities that can prove invaluable during a demanding run-in. He has played at high levels in Scotland and England and understands pressure situations.

If the loan is completed, this could be a classic win-win deal: Leicester gain a proven midfielder hungry to make an impact, while Aribo gets the platform to remind everyone of his quality.

Sometimes, a short-term move is all it takes to reset a career—and for Joe Aribo, Leicester City might just be the perfect reset button.
