Nigeria women's national football team Roar Back to Defeat Cameroon women's national football team 3–1 in Yaoundé Friendly

Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a strong response on Tuesday night, defeating the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 3–1 in their second international friendly at the Military Stadium, Yaoundé.

The encounter came just days after the Falcons suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to the hosts in the first friendly last Saturday. Determined to avoid another setback, Justine Madugu’s side showed resilience and quality to overturn an early deficit and secure a convincing win.

Cameroon struck first in the seventh minute through Christiane, putting the home crowd in high spirits. However, the African champions regrouped and gradually imposed themselves on the contest.

Nigeria found their equaliser in the 32nd minute when Chiwendu Ihezuo calmly finished to restore parity. The momentum shifted firmly in favour of the visitors, and Rinsola Babajide gave the Falcons the lead three minutes before halftime, slotting home from inside the box.

Michelle Alozie extended Nigeria’s advantage in the 64th minute with a well-taken header, effectively sealing the comeback. The Falcons maintained control for the remainder of the game, managing possession and limiting Cameroon’s attacking opportunities.

Opinion: A Statement of Character

Beyond the scoreline, this victory speaks volumes about the Super Falcons’ mentality. Losing the first friendly could have dented confidence, but instead, the team responded with composure and determination.

Friendlies may not carry competitive points, but they often reveal a team’s depth, adaptability, and mental strength. Madugu’s tactical adjustments appeared effective, particularly in midfield transitions and attacking coordination.

The ability to recover from an early goal and dominate thereafter reflects a side that understands its pedigree. For a team preparing for bigger continental and global challenges, such performances reinforce belief and unity.

If this display is anything to go by, the Super Falcons are not just relying on reputation — they are actively building momentum for the tasks ahead.
