Funke Akindele Denies Snubbing Pasuma, Calls Out “Negative” Viral Claims

Funke Akindele Denies Snubbing Pasuma, Calls Out “Negative” Viral Claims

Nollywood star and filmmaker Funke Akindele has dismissed claims that she snubbed Fuji icon Pasuma during a recent event in Lagos.

The controversy began after a video surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), showing Pasuma attempting to get Akindele’s attention while she was engaged in a conversation with another guest. In the clip, the actress appeared to continue her interaction, while the singer returned to his seat—fueling speculation that she deliberately ignored him.

An X user, Uoladiti, amplified the narrative by sharing the video with a caption suggesting a public snub, sparking widespread reactions online.

However, Akindele swiftly addressed the situation, rejecting the claims and urging the public to avoid spreading negativity.
“Snub? Hell no. Stop the negativity pls. I saw him, greeted him, danced with him. Pasuma is my Egbon. Pls you all should stop this evil,” she wrote.

Her response aims to set the record straight, emphasizing that her relationship with the Fuji star remains cordial and respectful.

The incident comes shortly after Akindele was previously linked to another “snub” narrative involving fellow actress Toyin Abraham at a movie premiere—an episode that also generated significant online buzz.

Opinion: Social Media Is Too Quick to Judge—Again

This situation highlights a recurring issue in today’s digital culture: the speed at which assumptions become “facts.”

A short clip—often lacking context—can easily shape public opinion within minutes. In Akindele’s case, a few seconds of divided attention were enough to trigger headlines and criticism. But her clarification tells a different, more complete story.

The truth is, public figures—especially in Nigeria’s entertainment space—are constantly under a microscope. Every gesture is analyzed, every interaction scrutinized. While accountability is important, jumping to conclusions based on incomplete visuals can be unfair and, at times, damaging.

What makes this more interesting is the pattern. Once a celebrity is linked to a certain narrative—in this case, “snubbing”—people become quicker to believe similar stories, even without solid proof. It becomes less about what actually happened and more about what people expect to see.

In reality, moments like this remind us to slow down. Not every viral clip tells the full story, and not every silence is intentional disrespect.

If anything, this should be a cue for audiences to be more critical of what they consume—and less eager to turn fleeting moments into lasting judgments.
