Atlético Madrid Open Door to Ademola Lookman Exit Months After Big-Money Move

Atlético Madrid Open Door to Ademola Lookman Exit Months After Big-Money Move

Atlético Madrid are reportedly considering the possibility of parting ways with Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman just months after bringing him in from Atalanta.

According to Spanish transfer outlet Fichajes, the La Liga giants have placed an estimated €50 million price tag on the Super Eagles star as they assess his future at the club.

Lookman arrived in Madrid with a strong reputation after becoming one of Atalanta’s most influential attacking players in Italy. His pace, creativity, attacking intelligence, and ability to operate across different positions made him an attractive option for Diego Simeone’s side.

However, adapting to Simeone’s demanding tactical system has reportedly proved challenging. Atlético’s style requires intense defensive responsibility, constant pressing, and discipline without the ball — areas where Lookman has not yet fully convinced the Argentine coach.

Despite the uncertainty, the Nigerian forward has still produced respectable numbers. In the second half of last season, Lookman recorded 13 goal contributions, scoring nine goals and providing four assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.

The possibility of an early departure has raised questions among supporters, especially considering the expectations surrounding his arrival. Lookman’s performances at Atalanta showed he can be a match-winner at the highest level, but Atlético’s system demands more than attacking brilliance alone.

The situation also comes at a difficult time for the forward, who chose not to join the Nigeria squad for the June international fixtures against Poland and Portugal amid uncertainty over his club future.

If Atlético decide to sell, the €50 million valuation could attract interest from clubs looking for a proven attacker. For Lookman, the next move could be crucial — either proving he can adapt to Simeone’s football or finding a team where his attacking freedom allows him to shine again.

One thing is clear: a player who helped deliver memorable moments in European football is now facing a major career crossroads just months after what was expected to be a new chapter in Spain.
