Côte d’Ivoire Enter 2026 World Cup With Youngest Squad as Emerse Fae Builds New Generation

Côte d’Ivoire Enter 2026 World Cup With Youngest Squad as Emerse Fae Builds New Generation

Côte d’Ivoire have been confirmed as the youngest squad at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the world football governing body FIFA.

FIFA announced the ranking through its official World Cup social media platform, revealing that the Elephants have an average squad age of 25.8 years.

"Introducing Côte d’Ivoire… Youngest squad at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Average age: 25.8," FIFA stated.

The announcement comes as the African champions prepare for their opening Group Stage fixture against Ecuador, with head coach Emerse Faé trusting a youthful group to compete on football’s biggest stage.

New Era After Drogba and Yaya Generation

The current Ivorian squad represents a new chapter for a nation once led by iconic figures such as Didier Drogba and Yaya Touré.

Rather than relying on experience, Faé has built a team filled with young talents playing in some of Europe’s top leagues, hoping their energy, speed and ambition can make a strong impact at the tournament.

The coach has also made bold selection decisions, leaving out some experienced players, including 33-year-old forward Wilfried Zaha, who currently plays for Charlotte FC on loan from Galatasaray.

Youth Could Be Côte d’Ivoire’s Biggest Weapon

While young squads can sometimes lack tournament experience, Côte d’Ivoire’s blend of European exposure and athletic quality could become a major advantage.

The Elephants are entering the World Cup without the pressure of repeating the achievements of their legendary generation, but with the opportunity to create their own identity.

The big question now is whether this youthful side can handle the intensity of global competition and turn potential into results on the biggest football stage.
