Thomas Partey Set To Leave Villarreal As Club Decides Against Contract Renewal, While Real Madrid Land Bernardo Silva
Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is set to become a free agent at the end of the month after Villarreal reportedly decided not to extend his contract for another season.
According to reports from The Athletic, the Spanish club will not offer Partey a new deal despite his regular involvement during his one-year spell with the team.
The former Arsenal star joined Villarreal last summer and went on to make 32 appearances across all competitions, contributing his experience and defensive strength to the squad.
Partey is currently representing Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but his tournament preparations were recently affected after he was denied entry into Canada due to an ongoing legal proceeding in the United Kingdom.
The midfielder’s future now remains uncertain as he searches for his next club, with several teams expected to monitor his availability following his departure from Villarreal.
Meanwhile, in another major transfer development, Real Madrid have officially confirmed an agreement to sign Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva.
Silva, who departed Manchester City at the end of last season, will now continue his career at the Spanish giants under new manager José Mourinho.
The 30-year-old has signed a two-year contract that will keep him at Real Madrid until June 30, 2028.
The arrival of Silva adds more creativity and experience to Madrid’s midfield, while Partey’s expected exit marks another major turning point in the career of one of Ghana’s most recognised footballers.
