Ivory Coast Forward Elye Wahi Denied Canada Entry Ahead Of Germany World Cup Clash
Ivory Coast striker Elye Wahi has reportedly been denied entry into Canada ahead of the Elephants’ 2026 FIFA World Cup Group E match against Germany.
According to The Athletic, the forward was unable to secure a visa due to an ongoing investigation linked to match-fixing allegations, an issue that reportedly conflicts with Canadian immigration regulations.
Ivory Coast are scheduled to face Germany at the Toronto Stadium, with Wahi now a doubt for the important encounter.
The development comes after the Elephants made a winning start to their World Cup campaign, defeating Ecuador 1-0 in their opening fixture.
Wahi’s situation follows a similar incident involving Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey, who was also denied entry into Canada due to an ongoing legal matter involving allegations of sexual assault. Partey consequently missed Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama.
The visa issues have added an unexpected off-field challenge for teams competing at the tournament, with immigration decisions affecting player availability during one of football’s biggest events.
For Ivory Coast, the focus now turns to preparing for Germany as they look to maintain their strong start, regardless of whether Wahi is available for selection.
