Messi’s Family Confirms Father Jorge Is Recovering From Health Issue, Urges Privacy
The family of Argentina captain Lionel Messi has confirmed that his father, Jorge Messi, is currently dealing with a health issue and is receiving medical attention.
The announcement comes after Messi became emotional following Argentina’s World Cup match against Algeria, where he scored his first goal of the 2026 tournament. After the game, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed that his tears were not related to football.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Messi family said Jorge is under medical supervision and recovering positively.
“The Messi family informs that Jorge Messi is currently going through a health situation. At this time, he is under medical supervision, recovering and progressing favorably within the condition he is experiencing,” the statement read.
The family also criticised the spread of rumours and speculation surrounding Jorge’s condition, urging the public and media to respect their privacy.
They stressed that only Jorge’s immediate family has accurate information about his health and warned against relying on reports that do not come from official family channels.
“At times like these, we ask for responsibility, prudence, and humanity. A person’s health and the peace of mind of their loved ones should not be the subject of speculation or irresponsible media attention,” the statement added.
The family thanked fans and well-wishers for their support, while requesting continued respect for Jorge Messi’s confidentiality as he undergoes recovery.
Messi’s emotional reaction after the Algeria match had already sparked concern among supporters, and the latest statement provides clarity on the personal matter affecting the football icon and his family.
