Flamingos Continue U-17 World Cup Preparations with Third Friendly Against Future Stars ’99
Nigeria’s Flamingos will continue their preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final round qualifiers when they take on Future Stars ’99 Soccer Academy in a friendly match at the Remo Stars Sports Complex on Saturday.
The encounter will be the team’s third test game since beginning their training camp in Ikenne ahead of their crucial qualifying tie against the Young Amazons of Benin Republic.
Coach Akeem Busari’s side have enjoyed a strong start to their preparations, defeating Dream Star Ladies 3-0 in their opening friendly before recording a huge 11-0 victory over Royaltoms Queens in their second match on Tuesday.
The upcoming fixture is expected to give the technical crew another opportunity to assess the players, fine-tune tactics and build confidence ahead of the competitive qualifiers.
The Flamingos will welcome Benin Republic for the first leg of the qualifiers in Ikenne on Saturday, July 4, before travelling to Lomé for the return leg one week later.
Opinion: The Flamingos’ impressive scoring form in their warm-up matches is an encouraging sign, but the qualifiers will demand more than just goals. Maintaining defensive discipline and handling the pressure of a two-legged tie will be key if Nigeria want to secure another appearance at the global tournament.
