Eberechi Eze Dismisses Harry Kane Curse Claims Ahead of England’s World Cup Campaign

England midfielder Eberechi Eze has played down reports surrounding claims that a Ghanaian spiritualist placed a curse on Three Lions captain Harry Kane during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Crystal Palace star was questioned about viral comments from self-proclaimed spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam, who claimed before England’s Group L match against Ghana that he would cast a spell to affect Kane’s performance.

The claims gained attention after Kane failed to score in England’s goalless draw with Ghana in Foxborough, leading to speculation online that the alleged curse had affected the striker.

However, when asked if the issue had been discussed among England players, Eze laughed and questioned whether the interviewer truly believed in such matters before saying he was “not too interested” in the topic.

Kane entered the match in excellent form after equalling Gary Lineker’s record as England’s joint-highest World Cup scorer with 10 goals, leaving him just one goal away from becoming the country’s outright record holder in the competition.

Bonsam, who had previously claimed responsibility for Cristiano Ronaldo’s knee injury during the 2014 World Cup, has since said he has “released” Kane from the alleged spell.

Opinion: Football has always attracted stories, superstitions and unusual narratives, especially during major tournaments. While such claims can create headlines and fan debates, players like Eze appear focused on what happens on the pitch — preparation, performance and teamwork rather than outside distractions.
