The mechanism, stated plainly
Nigeria has very little of the infrastructure that decides careers elsewhere: few A and R departments with real budgets, few development deals, almost no scouting operations that sign an artist before there is public proof. What exists instead is a small number of established figures whose attention functions as the hiring decision.

When an industry has no formal way in, being generous with your platform is not a personality trait. It is the entire development pipeline.
The same story from the other end
Peller described this week how Olamide's early support took him to his first hundred thousand livestream views. Same structure: an established name pointing at somebody, and a career changing because of it. Olamide has done it repeatedly across more than a decade.
What is fragile about it
The gatekeeping sits with a handful of people who have no obligation to use it, no transparency about how they choose, and no consequence for not bothering. Talent nobody points at does not surface, and there is no second route.
The fix that is not coming quickly
Paid development structures that scout and invest rather than waiting for organic proof. They exist in Nigeria in small numbers and are heavily outweighed by the informal route.
Until that changes, the most consequential job interview in Nigerian music will keep being whether somebody like Davido takes your call.
