AC Milan Want To Tie Chukwueze Down Until 2031

AC Milan are reported to be preparing a new contract for Samuel Chukwueze, with talks expected to cover a deal running to 2031. The Nigeria winger has two assists in three Serie A appearances this season under Ruben Amorim, after spending last season on loan at Fulham.

Chukwueze's current deal runs to June 2028. A club does not open talks two years early because it is pleased. It does it because the value of a contract to the selling club falls away as it shortens, and the cheapest moment to buy protection is while the player still has time left on it.

What it means for the Super Eagles
A winger playing regularly and about to be paid like a fixture is worth more to Nigeria than one who is technically at a bigger club and technically available. The AFCON qualifiers are the immediate test, and the squad has spent most of this year short of forwards who are actually starting for their clubs.
Two assists in three games is a small sample. A contract to 2031 is a club saying it does not intend to wait for a bigger one.
The part still unwritten
No figures have been reported and no talks have been confirmed as opened. Until a salary and a length are signed, this remains what it currently is, which is a club briefing that it would like to keep a player it nearly gave up on.
