Big Brother Naija's eleventh season lost three housemates in a single live show on Sunday evening. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu announced the exits of Bells, who had spent eight weeks in the house, followed by Yusuf and Chimsom Chuka. Abi and Araga went the week before. Ten housemates remain in the Show Ya Sef house, running for the 160 million naira prize.

Why a triple eviction happens

Arithmetic. A season has a fixed number of live shows and a house that started far too full to reach a final one or two at a time. Producers compress the middle, which is also the part of a season where audiences start drifting, and a triple exit is the cheapest way to make a Sunday feel like an event.

What it does to the remaining ten. The strategic calculation changes completely. With a large house, survival is about not being the most disliked. With ten left and the finish visible, alliances that were insurance become a liability, because every remaining housemate is now measurably closer to the money. The next fortnight is where the season's actual conflicts get made.

Whatever anyone thinks of the format, nothing else in Nigerian media assembles that audience on a Sunday night, and the people leaving this week will be working from the visibility for years.
