Bisola Aiyeola Speaks on Sexual Harassment in Nollywood: “Talent Has Always Spoken for Me”
Popular media personality and actress Bisola Aiyeola has shared her perspective on sexual harassment in the Nigerian movie industry, revealing that she has never been asked for s*x to secure a role.
Speaking at a recent event, a clip of which surfaced on YouTube, the mother of one stated that her career has always been guided by her talent.
“Thankfully, I’ve never been asked for s*x for roles. There are some of us that it has never happened to, so I don’t have a personal story about it. My talent has always spoken for me and is still speaking for me,” Bisola said.
While acknowledging that s*xual harassment is a concern for many in Nollywood, she pointed out that other pressing challenges often receive less attention. These include physical harassment, irregular working hours, and lack of health insurance.
“It feels like when we’re only talking about s*x for roles, we shelve all other major issues that also happen in the industry,” she added.
Opinion: Talent Over Exploitation
Bisola’s candid remarks serve as a reminder that merit and professionalism should always take precedence in creative industries. While the conversation around s*xual harassment is crucial and must continue, her experience highlights that talent can still open doors and earn respect.
Her words also bring attention to the broader systemic issues in Nollywood, such as inconsistent working conditions and lack of employee protections. Addressing these concerns alongside harassment can create a safer, more equitable environment for all actors and crew members.
In essence, Bisola’s story is not just about avoiding exploitation — it’s about the power of skill, dedication, and integrity in shaping a sustainable career in entertainment.
