Opta SuperComputer Tips Arsenal as Champions League Favourites
The Opta SuperComputer has released its latest predictions for the top five teams most likely to win the UEFA Champions League this season, following the conclusion of the league phase on Wednesday night.
With all clubs now confirmed for the round of 16 and knockout playoffs, the data-driven model has placed Arsenal at the top of the list, giving the North London side a 29.8% chance of lifting the trophy for the first time in their history.
The Gunners finished top of the standings, winning all eight of their league-phase fixtures, an impressive run that has significantly boosted their title probability.
Close behind are Bayern Munich, who finished just below Arsenal and have been handed a 14.9% chance of winning the competition.
The remaining three teams in the top five all hail from the Premier League:
Manchester City – 10.5%
Liverpool – 8.9%
Chelsea – 7.5%
Interestingly, among these five contenders, only Arsenal have never won the Champions League, while the others boast rich European pedigree.
Opinion: Is This Finally Arsenal’s Moment?
Opta’s prediction will excite Arsenal fans—and rightly so. An unbeaten league phase, tactical maturity, and squad depth suggest a team growing into its European ambitions. Yet, history has taught football fans that the Champions League is rarely kind to first-time winners.
Bayern’s experience, City’s recent dominance, and Liverpool’s European resilience mean Arsenal’s task is far from straightforward. Data may favour the Gunners, but knockout football thrives on pressure, mentality, and moments.
Still, this season feels different for Arsenal. They’re no longer hopeful outsiders; they’re serious contenders. If they can combine their league-phase form with composure in the knockouts, the long wait for European glory might finally end.
For now, Opta has spoken—but the pitch will deliver the final verdict.
