Chiwetalu Agu Mourns Alex Ekubo, Says Nollywood Has Lost a Storyteller With More Roles to Give
Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has paid an emotional tribute to late actor Alex Ekubo, describing his death as a painful loss to the Nigerian film industry.
In a heartfelt video shared on his Instagram page, Chiwetalu expressed sadness over the passing of his colleague, reflecting on the passion, sacrifice and dedication Alex brought to his acting career.
The veteran actor noted that Alex was young, talented and full of promise, adding that it was painful to see his life and career cut short.
“Rest in peace, Alex Ekubo. I am deeply saddened by your passing. As a fellow actor, who has walked this path for many years, I know how much passion, sacrifice and heart you poured into your craft,” Chiwetalu said.
He added that Nollywood had lost more than just an actor, describing Alex as a storyteller whose potential was still unfolding.
“The stage and screen haven’t just lost an actor but a storyteller who still has many roles left to bring to life. Your presence, energy, and dedication will not be forgotten,” he said.
Alex Ekubo’s family had announced his death after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. The actor reportedly passed away at the age of 40 due to complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
He was laid to rest on Thursday, June 18, with family, friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry gathering to honour his memory.
Chiwetalu Agu’s tribute adds to the growing number of emotional messages from Nollywood stars who have continued to celebrate Alex’s talent, personality and contributions to the movie industry.
