Super Falcons Star Christy Ucheibe Leaves Benfica After Six Trophy-Laden Years
Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe has officially parted ways with Portuguese giants Benfica following the expiration of her contract.
The 25-year-old midfielder spent six successful years with the club after joining from Swedish side Assi Idrottsförening in 2020, becoming an important figure in Benfica’s women’s team.
During her time with the Eagles, Ucheibe made 179 appearances across all competitions and scored 11 goals. She enjoyed a highly decorated spell, winning six Portuguese league titles, two Portuguese Cups, five League Cups and two Super Cups.
Known for her versatility, work rate and ability to contribute both defensively and offensively, Ucheibe leaves Benfica after playing a major role in the club’s dominance in Portuguese women’s football.
The Nigerian international will now begin a new chapter in her career, with expectations that she will be included in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Opinion: Ucheibe’s departure marks the end of an impressive era at Benfica. At 25, she still has many years ahead at the top level, and her experience from winning multiple trophies could make her an important player for both club and country as she takes on a new challenge.
