Celtic Face Kelechi Iheanacho Uncertainty as Turkish Clubs Show Interest in Super Eagles Forward
Scottish champions Celtic could face a battle to retain Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho after the club’s option to extend his contract for another season reportedly expired.
The 29-year-old forward was absent as Celtic resumed pre-season training at Lennoxtown, with reports indicating that Iheanacho is currently in Nigeria training individually while waiting for clarity over his future.
Iheanacho joined Celtic and played a key role in their title-winning campaign, impressing with his experience and attacking contributions. The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker is believed to be interested in remaining at Parkhead, while manager Martin O’Neill is also reportedly keen on keeping him.
However, no official discussions over a new contract have taken place, leaving the striker’s next move uncertain.
With his deal situation unresolved, Iheanacho is now available as a free agent, and Turkish clubs have reportedly begun making attractive offers to secure his signature.
Opinion: Celtic will know that keeping an experienced player like Iheanacho could be valuable, especially with his European experience and ability to perform under pressure. However, the striker is also at a stage of his career where choosing the right project and guaranteed playing time could be more important than simply extending his stay.
