Super Falcons Dominate Senegal Again as Omewa Shines in Convincing 3-0 Victory

The Super Falcons of Nigeria delivered another commanding performance against Senegal, cruising to a 3-0 victory in their second international friendly at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday.

Having already secured a 2-1 win over their West African rivals in the first meeting last Friday, the nine-time African champions raised their level in the return fixture, producing a display that combined attacking flair, dominance, and defensive solidity.

Despite controlling large portions of the first half, Nigeria struggled to convert their chances. Washington Spirit forward Monday Gift had the first meaningful opportunity of the match, but her effort lacked the power to trouble the Senegalese goalkeeper.

Moments later, Joy Omewa came agonizingly close to opening the scoring after being brilliantly set up by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, only to see her effort crash against the woodwork.

The Super Falcons continued to press and created another clear opening in the 32nd minute, but a misunderstanding between Toni Payne and Ajibade prevented the hosts from taking the lead before halftime.

The breakthrough eventually arrived four minutes into the second half when Omewa rose highest to head home Nigeria's opener, rewarding the team's persistence and superior play.

The striker doubled her tally just six minutes later, showing composure in front of goal to put the Super Falcons firmly in control of the contest.

Head coach Justine Madugu then introduced experienced forward Asisat Oshoala and Folashade Ijamilusi in the 63rd minute, replacing Rinsola Babajide and the impressive Omewa.

The substitutions had an immediate impact. Three minutes after coming on, Oshoala connected with a well-worked move orchestrated by Ajibade to score Nigeria's third goal and effectively end any hopes of a Senegal comeback.

Although the Super Falcons continued to create opportunities, they were unable to increase their advantage further as the match ended 3-0.

A Performance Full of Positives

Beyond the scoreline, this was the kind of performance that will encourage Nigerian supporters ahead of future international assignments. The Super Falcons not only secured victory but also demonstrated depth within the squad, with younger players stepping up and experienced stars making their presence felt.

Joy Omewa's brace will undoubtedly grab the headlines. The forward showed sharp movement, confidence, and a clinical touch that could make her an important option for Nigeria moving forward. Equally impressive was Rasheedat Ajibade, whose creativity and leadership played a key role in unlocking the Senegalese defence.

The return of Asisat Oshoala to the scoresheet is another major positive. Great strikers thrive on confidence, and seeing the veteran forward make an instant impact after coming off the bench highlights the quality available to coach Justine Madugu.

While Nigeria may regret not converting more of the chances they created, a comfortable victory, a clean sheet, and strong individual performances suggest the Super Falcons are building momentum and sharpening their edge for bigger challenges ahead.

For Senegal, the match exposed areas that need improvement, but for Nigeria, it was another reminder of why they remain the standard-bearers of women's football in Africa.
