Jurgen Klopp Ready to Take Over as Germany Head Coach After Nagelsmann Exit
Former Jürgen Klopp has confirmed he is prepared to become the next head coach of Germany following the departure of Julian Nagelsmann.
Nagelsmann stepped down after Germany's disappointing campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, prompting the German Football Association to begin the search for a successor.
Speaking in New York while working as a television pundit for Magenta TV, Klopp revealed that he has already been approached during the federation's succession planning.
“Julian has stepped down and the federation is working on the succession and has approached me in the course of those considerations.
“About two years ago I stopped at Liverpool and said that I lacked the energy for another job or for another year with Liverpool.
“Since then I’m more than recharged, I’m ready.”
Klopp left Liverpool after bringing an end to a hugely successful spell that included major domestic and European honours. He had previously stated that he needed a break from football management after years of coaching at the highest level.
Now refreshed, the 59-year-old says he is ready to return to the dugout, with Germany appearing to be his preferred destination.
Opinion
If Klopp takes charge of Germany, it would represent one of the most significant managerial appointments in international football. His ability to build team spirit, develop young players and implement an aggressive playing style could help rejuvenate a national side that has struggled to meet expectations in recent major tournaments. The biggest challenge, however, will be adapting from the day-to-day demands of club football to the limited preparation time that comes with international management.
