Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has dismissed viral reports claiming he angrily walked out of TikTok stars Peller and Jarvis' wedding over jokes referencing the controversial "Wizkid is bigger than Fela" debate.

The speculation began after videos circulated online showing Seun leaving the venue while saying, "We are in the wrong place." The footage prompted claims that he was upset by comments made by one of the event's masters of ceremony, who reportedly joked about the long-running debate involving Wizkid and the legacy of his father, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.

The incident quickly sparked discussions on social media, with one of the MCs later alleging that Seun has anger management issues.

However, while speaking at the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos during a conversation with Fuji musician Malaika, Seun firmly denied the claims, insisting that his departure had nothing to do with the jokes.

According to him, he remained at the wedding until around 8:30 p.m. before leaving for another engagement at the Shrine.

“I left the Peller’s wedding about 8:30 pm. I came to the Shrine. There’s an event at the Shrine and I have to be there.

“But bloggers were saying I left angrily. Was I supposed to be dancing when I was hurriedly leaving the place for another event?”

Seun explained that he simply had another commitment to attend and was surprised by the interpretation of the video circulating online.

The controversy stems from an earlier public disagreement between Seun Kuti and Afrobeats star Wizkid. In January 2026, Wizkid declared during an online exchange that he was "bigger than Fela," a statement that generated widespread debate among fans, celebrities and public figures.

The comments reignited conversations about Fela Kuti's enduring influence on African music and culture, with opinions sharply divided over whether any contemporary artist could surpass the Afrobeat legend's historical impact.
