A national community food bank for the South East has been unveiled in Anambra, alongside an ICT experience centre, with Oluremi Tinubu leading the inauguration. Six outlets carried it.
Take the good part first
A functioning food bank feeds people who would not otherwise eat, and it does so faster than any policy change can. The argument that follows is not an argument against the food bank.
The question underneath
Whether this is an emergency or a description of normal life. Food inflation in Nigeria has run ahead of headline inflation for an extended period, which means the specific thing getting more expensive fastest is the thing nobody can go without.

Charity at national scale is not a safety net. It is a measurement of how far the floor has fallen.
Why the South East specifically
It is a politically significant region heading into 2027 where the ruling party has historically been weakest. That does not make a food bank cynical, and it does mean the siting of these projects is worth watching. The test is whether comparable facilities appear in regions where the votes are already assumed.
The ICT centre is the more interesting half
An experience centre is only useful if it connects to something: a training programme, a certification, an employer. Nigeria has a large number of inaugurated buildings with equipment in them and no operating budget by the second year.
The measurable follow-up on both is the same and it is boring: a published running cost, a published number of people served, and somebody returning in twelve months to check whether the doors are open.
