Peter Obi has set out a plan for dual transmission of election results in 2027, under which results would travel by two separate routes rather than one. Seven outlets carried it.
Most campaign statements about elections are about trust. This one is about architecture, which is a great deal more useful.
The problem it is aimed at
Nigeria's 2023 dispute turned substantially on transmission. Results were recorded at polling units and were supposed to be uploaded to a central viewing portal. Where uploads failed, were late, or differed from the paper record, there was no independent second copy to check against.
What dual transmission would mean in practice

The obvious objection
A parallel count run by a candidate's own party is not neutral, and a second set of numbers circulating on election night is a recipe for two sides each declaring victory from their own data. That is a real risk and Nigeria has seen worse consequences from less.
A second copy is only a safeguard if everyone agrees in advance what it is for. Otherwise it is a second claim.
How to make it a safeguard rather than a weapon
- Agreed before the poll, not announced on the night.
- Open to every party and to observers, not one campaign.
- Used for reconciliation, with discrepancies referred, not broadcast as a result.
Set against what else is being said
Aisha Yesufu has said Obi's supporters will not leave the votes to INEC and will place people at polling units to follow materials and results to collation. That is the same instinct expressed as mobilisation rather than as system design, and the two together describe an opposition that has decided the paperwork is the battleground.
They are right that it is. Whether a second channel calms an election or inflames it depends entirely on whether INEC agrees to it in advance.
