Kizz Daniel Says He Paused His Music For His Mother

Kizz Daniel has explained why he stepped back from music this year. Replying to a fan on X on Friday, the singer said the pause was because of the death of his mother earlier in the year, not because he was busy working on a project. "I paused for my mom," he wrote.

What fans had been assuming

Long silences from major Nigerian artists are usually read as album cycles, label disputes or strategy. Kizz Daniel's quiet spell attracted all three theories. The real reason was the one nobody online considered, because the industry rarely leaves room for it.

Grief and the release schedule. Afrobeats runs on constant output: singles every few months, features, tours, content between releases. Streaming rewards artists who never stop, and punishes absence quickly. An artist who stops because a parent has died is making a choice the business model does not really allow for, and he is right to make it anyway.
