In a significant move, former Manchester United teammates David Beckham and Gary Neville have acquired full ownership of Salford City Football Club, a League Two side they’ve been backing for several years. The new ownership group also includes US businessman Declan Kelly and Mervyn Davies, the chairman of Britain’s Lawn Tennis Association.

Previously, Beckham, Neville, and their fellow United legends—Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Phil Neville—were investors in Salford City, but with this new purchase, Butt, Giggs, Scholes, and Phil Neville will no longer hold shares in the club. Despite stepping away as shareholders, they will continue to have key roles at the club.

Gary Neville expressed his excitement about the new chapter, saying, “Football will come first, however, it’s critical that we drive the club towards sustainability in the next 4-5 years. I can’t wait for the next part of this journey.”

Beckham, who is also co-owner of MLS side Inter Miami, shared his pride in being a part of Salford City’s future: “Salford City is at the heart of its community. It has a rich history, and I am delighted to be a part of the next chapter.”
