Oluwo of Iwo Debunks Marijuana Allegation, Declares His Throne is God-Ordained

Oluwo of Iwo Debunks Marijuana Allegation, Declares His Throne is God-Ordained

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has firmly dismissed allegations that he smokes marijuana, describing the claims as baseless, malicious, and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

In a viral video addressing a public gathering, the monarch distanced himself from the rumours and invoked divine judgment on those behind the smear campaign.

“They are lying against me. They are unfortunate people. Unless I am smoking marijuana… If I’m a smoker, God should remove me from this throne. You, who are accusing me of being a smoker, God will punish you,” Oba Akanbi declared.

The rebuttal comes shortly after the Court of Appeal upheld Oba Akanbi’s enthronement as the Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, affirming his legitimacy on the throne.

Expressing joy over the court’s ruling, the monarch maintained that his reign was divinely ordained and could not be undone by human effort.

“My throne is from God. No man can undo what God has established,” he said, adding that he would not allow distractions to derail his mission of promoting peace and development in Iwoland.

Opinion: The Weight of a Throne and the Burden of Rumours

Leadership, especially in traditional institutions, comes with both honour and scrutiny. For Oba Akanbi, these allegations could be seen as an attempt to shake public trust in his rulership—particularly coming at a time when the court has just reaffirmed his legitimacy.

While the monarch’s fiery rebuttal may resonate with his supporters, it also highlights how damaging rumours can be to public figures, regardless of truth. In a society where traditional rulers are not just custodians of culture but also symbols of morality, even unverified claims can spark controversy.

That said, Oba Akanbi’s insistence on divine backing sends a clear message: his focus is on legacy, not distractions. Whether one agrees with his style or not, his call for peace and development in Iwoland should remain the conversation, not baseless rumours.

After all, when a king’s throne is tested, his response determines whether his reign will be remembered for turbulence—or for strength.
