Bambam, Susan Peters Raise Alarm Over Stolen Phones at Alex Ekubo’s Service of Songs

Nigerian actress and media personality Bamike Olawunmi, popularly known as Bambam, has revealed that her mobile phone was stolen during the service of songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo in Lagos.

The emotional event, which drew numerous dignitaries, entertainers, clergy members, and social media personalities, was organised ahead of Ekubo’s burial scheduled for next week.

Hours after the gathering, Bambam took to Instagram to announce the loss of her phone, explaining that she immediately activated tracking services in an effort to locate the device.

According to her, the phone's last known location was traced to Nnamdi Azikiwe Street on Lagos Island before the signal became less precise.

"I already tracked it instantly last night. Last known location was Nnamdi Azikiwe Street Lagos Island. It has not moved from there. Now it just says Lagos Island. It's probably sold or dismantled," she wrote.

Bambam's disclosure came shortly after fellow actress Susan Peters also reported that her phone disappeared during the event.

Peters revealed that her missing device was an iPhone 16 Pro Max and appealed to the public for assistance in recovering it.

"iPhone 16 Pro Max white is missing at the Monarch Event Center. It's an E-Sim with my US line so we can't even call it. The screen saver has my picture. Please repost this. Anyone who finds it will be rewarded. Please it's urgent," she wrote.

The actress also expressed disbelief that theft could occur at a memorial gathering meant to celebrate the life of a departed colleague.

"How do people come to such an emotional event and still have the guts to steal? Even after all Papa Jerry preached yesterday? Make una fear God please return my phone I beg," she added.

The incident comes after actor Stan Nze disclosed that more than five phones were reportedly stolen during the service of songs, sparking widespread conversations on social media about security and moral values at public events.

A Sad Footnote to an Emotional Gathering

The service of songs was intended to be a solemn occasion where friends, family, and colleagues gathered to honour Alex Ekubo’s memory. Instead, reports of multiple thefts have cast a shadow over what should have been a moment of unity and reflection.

What has particularly shocked many observers is the setting of the incident. Memorial events are often seen as sacred gatherings where empathy and respect take precedence. The reported thefts have therefore generated strong reactions, with many questioning how such acts could occur in an environment dedicated to mourning and remembrance.

As investigations and recovery efforts continue, the incident serves as a reminder of the need for heightened security at large public events, regardless of their purpose. For many attendees, however, the focus remains on celebrating Alex Ekubo’s life and legacy while hoping those responsible for the thefts are identified and held accountable.
