Carter Efe Lost 5.6 Million Followers And Blamed Peller
Lagos · Friday 11 September 2026
Carter Efe has been permanently banned from TikTok, losing an account with more than 5.6 million followers, and has accused fellow streamer Peller of bringing it down. Peller has denied it, saying he is being accused without cause and offering his own account of why the account was lost.
The dispute, and the thing underneath it
Whether Peller was involved is between them and, if a real intrusion happened, the police. The more useful subject is what the episode reveals: a creator can lose 5.6 million followers in a day, with no notice, no hearing and no appeal that anybody can rely on.
What a Nigerian creator actually owns
| Asset | Who controls it |
|---|---|
| Follower count on a platform | The platform |
| The content, if backed up | The creator |
| An email or phone list | The creator |
| Brand relationships | Shared, and contingent on reach |
Only the middle two rows survive a ban.
Five million followers is not an asset. It is a tenancy, and the landlord does not take calls.
Why it hits harder in Nigeria
Because there is no local recourse. A creator in a market with a platform office, a regulator and an established media-law practice has routes that a Nigerian creator does not. Enforcement decisions are made elsewhere, appeals are answered by a system, and there is no authority in Nigeria a banned creator can escalate to.
The practical lesson, which is unglamorous
- Never build on one platform. The audience should exist in at least two places before either one matters.
- Archive everything locally. A ban usually removes the back catalogue too.
- Collect something you own, even a mailing list, however unfashionable.
- Two-factor authentication, on the recovery email as well as the account.
The feud is the least important part
Carter Efe and Peller will resolve this publicly, probably loudly, and it will generate more content for both. The 5.6 million followers are gone either way, and the next creator it happens to will have exactly the same amount of recourse, which is none.
