Peter Obi Says He Will Never Abuse Tinubu

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), told the 2026 All Nigeria Editors' Conference in Enugu on Friday that he would never abuse President Bola Tinubu, who he said has his respect. Political disagreement, he said, should be about policies and performance, not personal attacks. The minister Festus Keyamo mocked the remark within hours.
Why this is not as bland as it sounds
Obi's movement was built in 2022 and 2023 on a mood of anger, much of it expressed online in exactly the personal terms he is now ruling out. Telling editors, in public, that he will not abuse the President is a candidate trying to reset the tone of his own campaign, and his most vocal supporters are the people it is aimed at.

Keyamo took the third option almost immediately.
Promising not to insult an opponent is easy. Out-arguing him on the economy is the hard part, and it is the only part that wins votes.
What else the campaign is fighting
The Anambra State government this week claimed that Governor Charles Soludo had paid workers' entitlements left unpaid during Obi's eight years in office, a claim that drew fierce reactions online and will keep coming back. A candidate running on competence in government will be judged on his record in government, and his opponents know it.
