Bimbo Ademoye Raises Alarm Over Alleged Copyright Theft on Hit Film Where Love Lives
Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Bimbo Ademoye, has publicly expressed frustration after an individual allegedly claimed copyright ownership of a song used in her YouTube movie, Where Love Lives, resulting in the demonetisation of the project.
The film, which was released in December 2025, has enjoyed massive success, amassing over 18 million views on YouTube. However, Ademoye revealed that her joy quickly turned to distress after discovering that a song used in the movie had been falsely claimed by an individual identified as Emmanuel Davies, also known as Lagos Sound.
According to the actress, the individual not only filed a copyright claim that led to the removal of monetisation from the film but also allegedly uploaded the same song on Spotify and other streaming platforms, presenting himself as the composer.
Taking to Instagram, an upset Ademoye issued a strong ultimatum, demanding that the copyright claim be lifted immediately. She maintained that she fully owns the rights to the song and accused the individual of attempting to profit from her hard work.
“I woke up to my hard work wanting to be stolen from me,” she wrote, insisting that the song was legally acquired and properly cleared before the film’s release.
Opinion: A Growing Threat to Creative Freedom
Beyond the emotions and strong words, Ademoye’s situation highlights a worrying trend in the Nigerian creative space—the rising abuse of digital copyright systems. With platforms like YouTube relying heavily on automated copyright claims, creators often find themselves vulnerable to false accusations that can block revenue overnight.
While Ademoye’s reaction reflects the frustration many creatives feel when their intellectual property is threatened, the issue also underscores the need for stronger legal frameworks, faster dispute resolution systems, and better protection for content creators.
For filmmakers and musicians alike, Where Love Lives is a reminder that success in the digital age comes with new battles. And as Nollywood continues to grow globally, safeguarding creative ownership must remain a top priority—not just for stars like Bimbo Ademoye, but for every creator trying to earn an honest living from their craft.
As the situation unfolds, many fans and industry stakeholders will be watching closely, hoping the matter is resolved fairly and lawfully.
