Dai Dai Has Passed A Billion Views, And Burna Boy Is On It
Lagos · Saturday 12 September 2026
Dai Dai, the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup by Shakira and Burna Boy, has passed one billion views on YouTube. Released on 23 May, it is the first song released in 2026 to reach the mark and sits among the ten fastest videos in the platform's history to get there.
What a World Cup song does that a hit cannot
It gets played whether or not anyone chose it. Opening ceremony in Mexico City, halftime at the final, every highlights package, every montage, in every market at once for a month. No amount of promotion buys that distribution, and it is why the official song slot is the single most valuable placement in popular music.
| What Dai Dai did | Detail |
|---|---|
| Billboard Global 200 | First World Cup song to reach number one, seven weeks |
| Global Excl. US | Ten weeks at number one |
| YouTube | One billion views in under four months |
Royalties from the record go to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
The Nigerian question underneath it
An Afrobeats artist did not feature on the World Cup song. He is one of the two artists it belongs to.
Nigerian music has spent a decade being described as arriving. A co-lead credit on the official song of the largest sporting event on earth, performed at both the opening and the final, is a different category of statement to a festival slot or a chart placing. It is the part of the industry that no ministry, agency or policy document contributed anything to.
