Nonnistics Takes ASCEND To New York Tomorrow

Nonnistics unveiled ASCEND, its spring/summer 2027 collection, on Friday ahead of a New York presentation tomorrow. The Nigerian house, founded by Nonye Goodie-Obi, works its collections through local artisans and tailors, and last showed at New York Fashion Week in 2019.
What is in the collection
Goodie-Obi describes ASCEND as a study of personal evolution and of holding several registers at once. In practice that means a contrast between sharp lines and fluid material: soft silks against structured cuts, blocks of pictorial colour set against black, and a cream dress carrying circular gold motifs.
The hard part is not the show

Runways are a marketing cost. Repeat orders are the business.
A Nigerian label at New York Fashion Week is not news any more. A Nigerian label that can make four hundred identical dresses in Lagos and ship them on schedule would be.
Why it is worth watching anyway
Because the production model is the interesting claim. Plenty of labels marketed as Nigerian are designed here and manufactured elsewhere, which is a reasonable commercial decision and a completely different economic proposition. A house that keeps the sewing at home is employing people here, training people here, and betting that the quality gap can be closed locally. That is the part that outlasts one presentation.
