An Archbishop Has Prophesied A Tinubu Victory, And Denied Taking Money

Archbishop Kawas has said he has a prophecy about President Tinubu winning in 2027, defended his endorsement against accusations that he is a fake bishop, and said Peter Obi never gave him "one dollar, one naira".

The denial is the interesting one, because nobody had to make it.
The structural problem with prophetic endorsement
A prediction can be wrong and forgotten. A prophecy, by design, cannot be wrong, which is exactly what makes it useful to a campaign and useless to a voter.
Nigeria has a long record of clerics announcing electoral outcomes in advance, on all sides, and almost no record of any of them being held to it afterwards. The ones who are correct are cited for years. The ones who are not simply stop mentioning it, and their congregations do the same.
What would raise the standard
Disclosure, voluntarily and in both directions: what any endorsing cleric has received from any campaign, in cash, travel, land or contracts. Nobody will do it, no law requires it, and until somebody does, every endorsement of this kind will be read by half the country as purchased and by the other half as divine.
