Peter Fatomilola Says Mr Macaroni Paid Him A Million Naira For One Scene

The veteran actor Peter Fatomilola has said that Mr Macaroni paid him one million naira for appearing in a scene in one of his films, plus 200,000 naira for transport, and gave cash gifts to two children. Fatomilola described the treatment as unexpected.
Why "unexpected" is the important word
Fatomilola has been acting for decades, with a body of work in Yoruba film and television that younger actors grew up watching. That a fair payment surprised him says a great deal about what veteran actors in Nigeria are normally offered, and about how often they are expected to work for respect rather than money.

Mr Macaroni built his audience online and now produces his own work, which means he sets the rates. Choosing to pay a veteran well and saying nothing about it until the veteran spoke up is a small act with a clear message to other producers. It would be a better industry if it were unremarkable.
